Obverse description Laureate bust of Vespasian facing right, depicted with a draped left shoulder, rendered in the characteristic realistic portraiture style of the Flavian dynasty. The emperor's effigy shows the characteristic mature features associated with Vespasian, including a broad, furrowed brow and strong jaw. The circumferential legend runs around the periphery of the flan, beginning at the bottom left and continuing clockwise through the field.

Obverse lettering IMP CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M TR P P P COS III
(Translation: Imperator Caesar Vespasianus Augustus Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate, Pater Patriae, Consul Tertium. Supreme commander (Imperator) Caesar Vespasian, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power, father of the nation, consul for the third time.)
Reverse description The personification of Victoria (Victory) stands facing right, her body in a graceful contrapposto pose, with her left foot resting upon a captured enemy helmet. With her right hand she inscribes the legend OB CIVES SERV upon a large oval shield that is affixed to a palm tree rising in the field. The composition commemorates Vespasian's military successes and his role as protector of Roman citizens. The senatorial mark of authority S C (Senatus Consultum) appears prominently in the field, flanking the central design, as customary on imperial bronze coinage.
