Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Vespasian facing right, draped with aegis over the left shoulder, rendered in bold high relief characteristic of early Flavian imperial portraiture. The effigy displays the emperor's distinctive physiognomy with a strong jaw and closely cropped hair. The encircling Latin legend runs from the lower left, reading IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG P M T P P P COS III, separated from the portrait by a raised border. The field is broad and slightly concave, typical of the large hammered orichalcum or bronze sestertius format of the period.
