The emperor's effigy displays his distinctive aged features with a broad, fleshy face, strong jaw, and closely cropped hair beneath the laurel wreath. The bust is draped, with paludamentum visible at the truncation. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG P M T P P P COS III, distributed around the full periphery of the coin.
