| Reverse description | Vespasian, togate and standing to the left, extends his right hand to raise the kneeling personification of Libertas, who reaches upward toward the emperor in a gesture of supplication. Roma stands to the right, helmeted and draped, facing left toward the central group, lending divine sanction to the act. The composition conveys the Flavian dynastic message of the restoration of liberty following the civil wars of AD 69. The legend arcs across the upper field, with the senatorial mark S C flanking the figures in the lower exergual zone. |
