| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, with drapery over the left shoulder, occasionally rendered with an aegis. The emperor's portrait is rendered in the confident, idealised style characteristic of Trajanic imperial coinage, conveying martial authority and civic virtue. The encircling legend is distributed around the periphery of the flan in crisp Latin capitals. The strong sculptural modelling of the imperial effigy reflects the high artistic standards maintained by the Rome mint workshops during this period. |

| Reverse description | The personification of Spes (Hope) is depicted as a draped female figure advancing to the left, raising a flower in her extended right hand while gathering her skirt upward with her left hand — the canonical pose by which Spes is identified on Roman imperial coinage. The figure is rendered in flowing drapery with graceful movement suggested by the forward stride. The senatorial authority for the issue is proclaimed by the large S C (Senatus Consultum) in the field to either side of the figure, while the dedicatory legend arcs across the upper and lower registers of the reverse field. |
