| Reverse description | The reverse displays the large senatorial authorisation monogram S·C (Senatus Consulto) in bold, deeply incuse letters dominating the central field, signifying that the coin was issued by authority of the Senate. The surrounding legend, running clockwise from the upper right, reads TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVST P M TR POT XXXIIX, identifying the issuing emperor as Tiberius Caesar, son of the deified Augustus, in his 38th year of tribunician power. The lettering is crisp and well-spaced around the periphery. The overall design is characteristic of the aniconic Tiberian sestertius type, emphasising imperial titulature and senatorial authority rather than portraiture. |
