| Reverse description | Ceres, goddess of grain and harvest, seated left upon a low basket or cista, her figure draped in robes rendered with fine linear detail. In her extended right hand she holds ears of corn or poppies, and in her left hand a long torch rests against her shoulder. The authorizing legend S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in large letters in the exergue below the seated figure, flanking the base of the design. The composition reflects the classical Hadrianic revival of Augustan iconographic traditions. |
