| Obverse description | Laureate bare-headed bust of Nero facing right, with a small globe at the point of the neck truncation, rendered in bold high relief characteristic of Neronian sestertii. The emperor's effigy displays the characteristic fleshy features and curled Julio-Claudian coiffure, with layered laurel wreath tied at the back. The encircling legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan in incuse Latin capitals. The portrait is strongly modelled, reflecting the ambitious artistic programme of Nero's mid-reign coinage. |
