Reverse description Nero, bare-headed and cuirassed, depicted on horseback prancing to the right, his military cloak (paludamentum) billowing dramatically behind him as he holds a spear in his right hand. To his right and slightly behind, a mounted soldier also riding right carries a vexillum (military standard) over his shoulder. The scene commemorates the decursio, a ceremonial military cavalry exercise performed at imperial funerals and public spectacles. The legend DECVRSIO appears in the field, with the senatorial authority mark S C prominently placed below.
