Reverse description An elaborate allegorical composition depicting two female personifications set within an open architectural setting. Ceres, veiled and fully draped, is seated to the left holding ears of grain in her right hand and a long torch in her left, her matronly figure rendered with careful drapery folds. Facing her, Annona stands to the right, draped, with her right hand resting on her hip and her left arm supporting a large cornucopiae, symbol of abundance. Between the two figures, a modius (grain measure) rests atop a garlanded altar at center, while the stern of a ship appears in the background to the right, alluding to Rome's maritime grain supply. The legend and senatorial authorization mark ANNONA AVGVSTI CERES and the large S C (Senatus Consultum) flank the scene, affirming the Senate's authority over the bronze coinage.
