Obverse description A carpentum — a roofed, two-wheeled ceremonial carriage — depicted in profile moving to the right, drawn by two mules rendered in fine relief. The carpentum features an arched canopy with decorative panelling along the side and a spoked wheel visible beneath the body of the vehicle. The scene commemorates the deified memory of Flavia Domitilla, wife of Vespasian, and reflects the honours accorded her by the Senate and Roman people. The legend is distributed around the periphery of the field.
