Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with fine portraiture typical of the Hadrianic period, the drapery visible at the shoulder viewed from the rear. The emperor's characteristic beard and strongly modelled facial features are rendered in high relief. The encircling Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The overall style reflects the classicising aesthetic favoured under Hadrian's reign.

Reverse description The Emperor Hadrian stands facing left, wearing military attire and paludamentum, extending his right hand to raise a kneeling female figure personifying Nicomedia, who is turreted and holds a rudder as an attribute of her maritime civic identity. Hadrian holds a scroll in his left hand, symbolising the imperial benefaction or edict restoring the city. The scene celebrates Hadrian's restoration of Nicomedia, likely following earthquake damage, and is a fine example of the 'restorer' type reverse series issued under his reign. The senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in the field, and the legend RESTITVTORI NICOMEDIAE encircles the composition.
