| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered with finely detailed hair and a short beard characteristic of the emperor's mature portraiture. The emperor wears a paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder, with the cuirass visible at the truncation. The encircling legend IMP CAESAR TRAIANVS HADRIANVS AVG runs along the outer rim in crisp, incuse Latin capitals. The portrait displays the high-relief, Hellenistic-influenced style typical of early Hadrianic coinage, reflecting the artistic refinement introduced at the Rome Mint upon his accession in AD 117. |
