| Obverse description | Bare-shouldered, draped and laureate bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered with the emperor's characteristic full beard and curling hair visible beneath the laurel wreath. The effigy is depicted in high relief with fine detail in the facial features and drapery at the truncation. The surrounding legend is incuse in Latin capital letters, distributed around the periphery of the flan within a beaded border. The portrait reflects the classicising Hellenistic influence favoured in Hadrianic coinage, with a naturalistic yet idealized treatment of the imperial physiognomy. |
