| Reverse description | Standing figure of Minerva, goddess of wisdom and warfare, depicted in full-length draped attire facing left. She extends her right hand forward over a small altar or trophy, while her left hand rests upon a large round shield set upright at her side. A spear is held vertically behind her. The senatorial mark of authority S C (Senatus Consultum) is placed in the field to the left and right of the figure respectively, and the circumferential legend P M TR P COS III is distributed around the upper field. A beaded border surrounds the entire design. |

| Additional information |
Hadrian's early sestertii from 121–123 fall within a particularly active phase of his reign — he had just abandoned Trajan's eastern conquests and was reconfiguring imperial policy around consolidation rather than expansion. The COS III designation dates these pieces to after his third consulship began in 119, but the P M TR P formula without a tribunician year numeral places this type within a specific narrow emission window that numismatists have worked carefully to sequence. RIC II.3 668 is part of the major 2007 revision of this series, which substantially reorganized Hadrian's bronze coinage from earlier RIC II attributions.
