She leads a horse by its bridle with her right hand while carrying a bundle of javelins in her left, emblematic of the region's famed cavalry and martial character. The composition is rendered in the classicising style typical of Hadrian's adventus and provincia series, celebrating the emperor's provincial travels. The senatorial authorization legend is prominently displayed in the field. This type belongs to Hadrian's celebrated series of provincial personifications issued between 130 and 133 AD. |
