Obverse lettering HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P
(Translation: Hadrianus Augustus, Consul Tertium, Pater Patriae. Hadrian, emperor (Augustus), consul for the third time, father of the nation.)
Reverse description A Roman war galley (navis longa) shown in profile sailing left, its hull decorated with a straked pattern and a prominent ram (rostrum) at the prow; a figure, possibly a helmsman or deity, is visible at the stern. Waves are indicated beneath the keel, conveying the vessel in motion. The legend FELICITATI AVG arcs along the upper field, while the senatorial authorisation mark S C is prominently placed in the lower exergual field. This reverse type alludes to the felicitas — the prosperity and divine favour — attending Hadrian's extensive maritime travels throughout the empire.
