Reverse description A Roman war galley (navis longa) depicted in profile sailing to the right, rendered with considerable detail showing the ram (rostrum) at the prow, a bank of oars extended below the hull, and multiple rowers visible above the gunwale. At the stern, a helmsman or officer stands holding a sceptre or standard, while a vexillum or military standard is raised at the prow. The legend FELICITATI AVG arcs across the upper field, with COS III P P disposed in the lower exergual area, and the senatorial authorization marks S and C placed in the left and right fields respectively, all within a border of beaded dots. The galley type alludes to Hadrian's extensive imperial travels and the felicity of his reign.
