Before him stand three or more soldiers bearing military standards, representing the Syrian legions. The scene commemorates Hadrian's celebrated tour of the eastern provinces and his address to the Army of Syria. The legend is divided with EXERCITVS SYRIACVS in the field and S C (Senatus Consultum) flanking the lower portion of the design. |
