| Reverse description | Hadrian on horseback advancing to the right, his right hand raised in adlocutio gesture addressing the troops before him. To his right stand three or more soldiers in military dress, some bearing standards — including what appear to be legionary eagles and vexilla — rendered in a row facing the emperor. The scene commemorates Hadrian's inspection of the Mauretanian army during his provincial tours. The two-line Latin legend is divided between the upper field and the lower exergual area, with the senatorial authority mark S C flanking or accompanying the inscription. |
