| Reverse description | The personification of Clementia stands facing left in full figure, draped in a long stola and palla, extending a patera in her right hand and holding an upright sceptre in her left. The figure is rendered in a calm, dignified classical style, evoking the imperial virtue of mercy and forbearance. The legend COS III P P CLEMENTIA AVG runs around the upper field, identifying the type and associating this quality directly with the emperor. The large senatorial authorisation marks S and C are placed symmetrically in the lower field to either side of the standing figure, as was standard on sestertii of this period. |
