| Obverse description | Bare-headed and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with characteristic curly hair and short beard in the Hellenistic portrait style favored during his reign. The emperor's effigy displays fine sculptural detail in the treatment of the hair and beard, consistent with the mature portrait type of his later coinage. The circular legend is inscribed in Latin around the periphery of the flan. No laurel wreath is present, distinguishing this issue within the Hadrianic series. |
