Obverse description Laureate, draped bust of Hadrian facing right, with the paludamentum fastened at the shoulder visible from the rear, the emperor portrayed with his characteristic full beard and classicising physiognomy. The effigy is rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and laurel wreath. The encircling legend reads HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys the Hellenising aesthetic favoured during Hadrian's reign.
