| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, with the imperial paludamentum visible over the left shoulder, the drapery rendered in fine detail characteristic of Hadrianic court portraiture. The emperor is depicted with his distinctive short beard and curled hair beneath the laurel wreath, consistent with his mature portrait type. The legend is disposed around the periphery of the flan in Latin capital letters. The portrait exhibits the high-relief modelling and idealized naturalism typical of Roman sestertii struck in the early second century AD. |
