To the left of the figure stands an ibis, typically perched atop a low column, a sacred bird emblematic of Egypt and the god Thoth. The reverse composition belongs to Hadrian's celebrated 'Provinces' series, commemorating his travels and the distinct character of each region of the Empire. The senatorial authority for the issue is affirmed by the S C mark in the field. |
