The ADVENTVS coinage was struck to commemorate Hadrian's return to Rome after his extensive provincial tours — journeys that consumed roughly half his reign and took him through Britain, the Danubian frontier, Asia Minor, Egypt, and Judaea. No emperor before him had traveled so systematically, and the mint responded with a sustained series of arrival types keyed to specific provinces and cities. This issue, honoring Roma herself, belongs to the final cluster of that series, struck after Hadrian had effectively concluded his traveling years due to deteriorating health.
By 133–135 he was largely resident in Italy, supervising the final stages of his mausoleum construction on the Tiber's right bank.
