The ADVENTVS coinage was struck to commemorate Hadrian's provincial tours — among the most extensive undertaken by any emperor. Between roughly 121 and 132 AD he visited virtually every corner of the empire, and the mint responded with a systematic series of arrival types honoring each region or city. The Roma type within this series acknowledges his return to the capital itself, a homecoming that carried particular political weight after years abroad and amid mounting tensions that would culminate in the Bar Kokhba revolt.
Orichalcum sestertii of this specific emission are known for uneven flan preparation, and planchet flaws are not uncommon on survivors.
