| Reverse description | Adventus scene depicting Hadrian standing to the right, his right hand raised in salutation and his left hand holding a volumen (scroll); facing him is the personification of Cilicia, helmeted and standing to the left, extending a patera in her right hand and holding a vexillum (military standard) in her left. Between the two figures stands an altar, typically shown with a bull at its base, evoking the sacrificial ritual accompanying the imperial arrival ceremony. The senatorial authority is indicated by the S C (Senatus Consultum) flanking the figures in the field. The composition reflects the standard Hadrianic adventus type struck to commemorate the emperor's provincial tours of the eastern empire. |
