| Obverse lettering | IMP CAES M AT GORDIANVS AVG (Translation: Emperor Caesar Marcus Antonius Gordianus Augustus) |
| Reverse description | Aphrodite, nude and viewed three-quarters from behind, is depicted seated to the left in a bathtub, wringing water from her hair in a pose of intimate toilette. Her head is turned back toward the viewer, lending the composition a sense of captured spontaneity characteristic of Hellenistic artistic influence. To the right, her chiton is draped over a tree or post, while below the tub a hound stands to the left with its head turned back to the right. The reverse legend naming the colony of Iconium is disposed around the field, with S R in the lower portion indicating the city's status as an ally of Rome. |
