| Obverse lettering | SER SVLPI GALBA IMP CAESAR AVG TR P (Translation: Servius Sulpicius Galba Imperator Caesar Augustus, Tribunicia Potestas Servius Sulpicius Galba, supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, emperor (Augustus), tribunician power.) |
| Reverse description | Galba, clad in military paludamentum, stands right atop a raised tribunal platform addressing his troops in the adlocutio ceremony. An officer stands beside him on the platform; in the foreground, two soldiers face the emperor, one bearing a shield and legionary standard, the other a shield and spear. A horse is positioned between the groups, and behind the platform two soldiers stand right carrying a vexillum and spears; an aquila standard is visible in the field to the front. The scene commemorates Galba's address to his legions and is executed in the formal, multi-figure narrative style characteristic of Julio-Claudian and early Flavian state coinage. The exergue area is plain, with the legend and SC mark of Senatorial authority flanking the composition. |
