Obverse description Bare head of Drusus the Elder (Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus) facing left, rendered in fine relief with naturalistic portraiture typical of Julio-Claudian coinage. The effigy displays closely cropped hair rendered in short, layered strands across the forehead. A broad circular legend surrounds the portrait in the field, reading NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMANICVS IMP, in well-spaced incuse Latin lettering. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, characteristic of hammered bronze sestertii of this period. The portrait conveys the idealized yet individualistic style associated with official Claudian posthumous commemorative issues.
