Obverse description Laureate head of Domitian facing right, wearing an aegis at the truncation of the neck, with finely rendered hair and a ribbon trailing behind. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the Flavian imperial style, with strong facial features characteristic of official court portraiture. The encircling Latin legend runs clockwise from the lower left, framed by a beaded border. The aegis, a divine attribute linking the emperor to Jupiter and Minerva, is depicted with visible scales or serpent-skin texture at the bust truncation.
