| Reverse description | The personification of Spes (Hope) stands facing left in the central field, depicted as a draped female figure advancing with her right hand raised, lifting the hem of her garment with her left hand and holding a flower — the canonical iconographic type derived from the original Claudian sestertii. The large senatorial authority marks S and C (Senatus Consultum) flank the figure to left and right respectively in the mid-field. The circumferential legend IMP T VESP AVG REST S C runs around the periphery, proclaiming Titus's restitution of this Claudian coin type. The reverse displays a dark green patina with areas of earthen encrustation, the relief of Spes remaining legible despite surface wear. |
