| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Claudius facing right, with a draped paludamentum over the left shoulder, rendered in the realistic portraiture style characteristic of Julio-Claudian imperial coinage. The emperor's features display a mature, slightly fleshy face with short hair. The circular legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the coin, naming Claudius with his full imperial titulature. The die work is bold and the relief moderate, consistent with the official production of the Rome mint under Claudius. |
