| Obverse description | Bare laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic portrait style characteristic of early Julio-Claudian coinage. The legend encircles the effigy around the periphery of the flan, reading CAESAR PONT MAX. The portrait displays finely engraved hair with layered locks swept forward beneath the laurel wreath, and strong facial features consistent with official Augustan iconography. The flan is irregular and somewhat compact, typical of hammered bronze issues struck at the Lugdunum mint during the early Imperial period. |
