| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in a restrained, classicising style characteristic of early Imperial portraiture. The effigy displays finely articulated facial features with a smooth, idealized treatment of the hair. The circular legend runs around the periphery of the flan, divided across the field on either side of the portrait. The coin is struck on a broad, irregularly shaped flan typical of Augustan-era aes coinage. |
