| Obverse description | Effigy of Divus Augustus seated left upon a high-backed throne, his feet resting upon a low footstool. The deified emperor is depicted radiate, wearing imperial robes, holding a branch in his extended right hand and a long vertical sceptre in his left. An altar appears to the left of the throne. The design evokes the posthumous divine cult imagery established for Augustus, rendered in the bold, slightly schematic style characteristic of Flavian-era bronze coinage. |
