Obverse description Deified Augustus depicted in full figure, radiate and draped, seated to the left upon a throne or curule chair, holding an olive branch in his extended right hand and a long sceptre in his left. An altar is rendered in the left field before the figure, emphasizing the divine and cultic character of the type. The circular legend IMP NERVA CAES AVG REST runs around the periphery, attributing the restitution of this coin type to the emperor Nerva. The composition is rendered in the classical Roman hammered style, with bold relief and clear iconographic reference to Augustan apotheosis imagery.
