Obverse description Central field occupied by the Farnese heraldic shield, displaying the characteristic six fleurs-de-lis arrangement of the Farnese arms, surmounted by a ducal ring or annulet above the top of the escutcheon. The shield is rendered in a bold, if somewhat crude, hammered style typical of mid-16th-century Italian billon coinage. A beaded or dotted inner border frames the device, with the abbreviated Latin legend distributed around the periphery of the flan.
Obverse script Latin

Reverse description A floriated cross occupies the entire reverse field, its four arms terminating in stylised foliate or fleur-de-lis finials, with a small quatrefoil ornament placed at the tip of each arm. The quadrants between the arms are filled with the divided Latin legend. A beaded border encircles the design, consistent with the hammered production technique of the Novara mint during this period.
