Obverse description Facing right, the veiled and wreathed head of Demeter adorned with a crown of grain ears, rendered in archaic Greek provincial style. To the left of the effigy, a pellet and the sigma letter Σ serve as marks of value, positioned prominently in the field. The portrait exhibits the characteristic stylistic conventions of Lucanian bronze coinage of the Second Punic War period, with bold, if somewhat schematic, facial features.

Reverse description A hound depicted in full leap to the right, its body rendered with vigorous naturalism conveying speed and motion, typical of late Lucanian bronze engraving. Above the hound in the upper field, a pellet accompanied by the value mark Σ (sigma) reinforces the denomination. Below the leaping hound, the ethnic legend ΠAIS is inscribed in Greek characters along the lower field, identifying the issuing city of Paestum (ancient Poseidonia).
