Reverse description A decorated ceremonial table, supported by legs adorned with confronting sphinxes or gryphons, is depicted in three-quarter perspective. Atop the table rests a prize urn and a victor's wreath, emblems of the Neronia games. A large round shield leans against one of the table legs, further evoking the context of the quinquennial competition. The scene commemorates the Certamen Quinquennale, the Neronia festival instituted by Nero in AD 60. The senatorial authority for the issue is noted by the abbreviated SC (Senatus Consultum) in the reverse legend.
