| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Nero facing right, depicted with characteristic youthful portraiture of his early reign. The emperor is shown draped at the shoulder, his features rendered in the idealized Roman imperial style. A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust along the coin's periphery. The flan is irregular and the surfaces display the characteristic green patina of aged bronze. The portrait is struck in moderate relief typical of Roman hammered bronze coinage of the Neronian period. |

The CER QVINQ ROM CON reverse commemorates the Neronia, a Greek-style festival Nero instituted in 60 AD modeled on the great Hellenic games — an act that scandalized Rome's conservative senatorial class, who regarded public performance as beneath Roman dignity. Nero himself competed in 65 AD and was, predictably, declared the winner. The S C confirms senatorial authority over bronze coinage, a constitutional fiction both sides maintained even as Nero's relationship with the senate collapsed entirely.
