Obverse description Bare-necked, laureate bust of the emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with characteristic short beard and finely detailed hair beneath the laurel wreath. The truncation of the neck is visible at the base of the design. The encircling legend HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS runs around the periphery of the flan, partially visible against a plain field. The portrait displays the refined Trajanic-Hadrianic sculptural style typical of the Roman imperial mint output during the early second century AD.
