Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Louis XIII facing right, occupying the central field of the coin. The effigy, rendered in a somewhat crude hammered style consistent with provincial Catalan coinage of the period, shows the king with flowing hair beneath a laurel wreath. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, separated from the inner field by a beaded border. The overall strike is irregular, as is characteristic of hand-hammered copper coinage of this era.
