Obverse description Central shield-shaped cartouche surmounted by an ornate crown with scrollwork, enclosing a four-line Latin inscription denoting the denomination and mint authority. The cartouche is flanked by elaborate foliate and scroll ornamentation in the Baroque style. The entire design is contained within a beaded border running along the coin's periphery. The inscription is boldly rendered in Roman capitals, filling the field of the shield.
