The shield displays the traditional Portuguese quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) and is set within a decorative frame. The composition is characteristic of the São Tomé gold coinage struck at Goa during the reign of João V, reflecting the metropolitan Portuguese heraldic tradition adapted for colonial issue. A beaded border encircles the entire design. |
