Obverse description Central crowned Portuguese royal shield displaying the five quinas arranged in a cross, set within an ornate cartouche. The shield is flanked by the mintmaster initials 'G-A' to either side. The surrounding field bears a beaded or dentilated border. The design is struck in the characteristic irregular style of hammered coinage produced at the Goa mint during the reign of João V.
