Additional information

Agha Mohammad Khan founded the Qajar dynasty after decades of near-continuous civil war following the collapse of the Zand rulers, unifying Iran by brutal force — most notoriously his 1795 sack of Tbilisi and the blinding of some 20,000 men at Kirman. This coin dates to the year of his formal coronation at Tehran, the city he effectively established as the new imperial capital. Kashan, an ancient minting center with continuous operation through multiple dynasties, issued coins under his authority as consolidation of the realm was still actively underway.
