Reverse description Hammered reverse featuring a mint and date inscription in Nasta'liq calligraphy, contained within a pointed cartouche or arch-shaped border that occupies the central field. The legend names the mint of Mashhad Muqaddas (the Holy Mashhad) and records the AH date 1211, corresponding to 1797 CE. The name 'Ya Muhammad' appears as a devotional invocation at the top of the cartouche. The surrounding flat field shows the characteristically uneven surface of a hand-struck flan. The overall style is consistent with Qajar religious coin types struck at the shrine city of Mashhad.
