Reverse description A detailed view of the Alexander Column (Alexandrийская колонна) standing on its ornate pedestal and surrounded by a decorative iron fence with lamp posts, all rendered in fine engraved relief. The monolithic granite column is surmounted by a winged angel holding a cross, as erected in Palace Square, St. Petersburg, to commemorate Russia's victory over Napoleon. A Cyrillic dedicatory legend flanks the column on both sides reading АЛЕКСАНДРУ ПЕРВОМУ БЛАГОДАРНАЯ РОССІЯ and the date 1834, while the denomination 1. РУБЛЬ appears in the lower exergue. The composition is enclosed by a toothed border.
